Learn something new at any age

Write a letter, use a new tool or learn to grow a plant. Everyday needs can be the beginning of something new.

Learning happens outside school too. Sending a document, reading instructions or caring for an unfamiliar plant can give us a reason to learn.

Choose something you can try now

Instead of a broad goal such as “learn computing”, choose “create a folder and save a document in it”. A clear task tells you which instructions to find and when you can complete it independently.

Practise the steps

Read or watch a guide, then try each step. Use sample files or copies for unfamiliar tasks so you do not affect important work. Write down easily forgotten steps in your own words.

Find someone you can ask

A relative, colleague or someone with the same interest may be able to help. Explain what you want to do and where you are stuck. Once you can do it, try explaining it to someone else to see which parts need more practice.

Keep a small notebook

Record the date, what you tried and what you want to learn next. There is no need to compare your pace with anyone else's. A skill you can use in daily life is a concrete achievement.
