Choose a safe existing plant with its carer's permission. No special kit is needed.
Try it step by step
- Draw it and note its location and light.
- Observe at a similar time each day and record visible changes.
- Compare notes after a week, separating observation from explanation.
Prepare for the activity
Choose a plant and agree on care with its owner. Prepare a ruler and dated notes. Record initial height, visible leaves and colour. Observation does not require picking leaves or changing watering conditions.
Examples and adaptations
Keep measurement methods consistent, including the starting point for height. Note relevant changes such as moving the pot or rainfall. Separate observations from explanations: yellow leaves are visible, while their cause needs further investigation.
Continue and review progress
After a week or two, make a dated table and describe the clearest change. Check unusual measurements before drawing conclusions. Discuss new questions with an experienced grower. Careful records remain useful even when little growth is visible.
After the activity
Consult an experienced adult before changing its care. Days without visible changes also belong in the record.
